Artista multidisciplinar. Andrés Mérida, born in Algeciras (Cádiz) in 1964 and living in Málaga since 1970, began his artistic career professionally in the 1990s. His academic training took place at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Seville, and his career has been consolidating through exhibitions inside and outside of Spain, showcasing his works in many cities (such as New York, Mexico City, Hong Kong, Dortmund, Guadalajara, Lisbon, etc.). His work has evolved from the beginning, drawing influences from artistic movements of the 20th century, primarily expressionist and surrealist currents, thus creating his own universe and style that can be easily identified. In the first decade of this century, he traveled to the US and Mexico for extended periods, where he worked, had several exhibitions, and began experimenting with live performance painting while interacting with other artists. On a technical level, he has been experimenting with digital art, combining it with traditional techniques. In terms of aesthetics, he has introduced a new expressive resource in his works, which he calls "GARBATISMO." It involves making circular strokes that sometimes form identifiable shapes, while at other times they appear as pure abstract decoration. This new way of working is the result of several years of research and influences from artists such as Giacometti or J. Pollock. Currently, he is working on new exhibitions and collaborations with other artists. A more recent example of this is his collaboration on the stage design for the show "SOMBRAS" by the renowned flamenco dance artist Sara Baras.
